It's time once again for some musical road trips, and Ingrid Michaelson and the Alkaline Trio should be able to entice locals down to Denver.

Ingrid Michaelson

Ingrid Michaelson should apply for residency in Colorado.

The singer-songwriter hits Boulder and Denver every few months -- and sells out every show.

"I've been really busy since I played Colorado this summer," Michaelson said. "I've done a few shows with Dave Matthews and went on tour with Jason Mraz to Europe."

Now Michaelson's back in Colorado to promote her new CD, Be OK.

The singer-songwriter's new project is really a B-side album.

"I did acoustic versions of my songs and did some covers," Michaelson said. "I really stripped down the songs I'd already recorded.

"Half the proceeds of the record go to the group Stand Up to Cancer, because I wanted to give something back. This little project ended up bigger than we anticipated."

Fans checking out Michaelson's show at the Gothic Theatre on Friday will be in for a surprise. This is the first time that the performer's toured with a full band.

"This will really let me perform the songs the way they were recorded," Michaelson said.

Alkaline Trio

Thursday night marks the second night that Rise Against, Thrice and Alkaline Trio rock out the Fillmore in Denver.

"We were originally supposed to tour with Rise Against for this Vespa tour," Alkaline Trio guitarist Matt Skiba said. "That tour fell through, but we still decided to tour together.

"Rise Against is friends of ours. We knew it was only a matter of time before they blew up."

The Alkaline Trio is also touring to support its latest CD, Agony & Iron.

"We always make the kind of records that we'd want to listen to," Skiba said. "I think people are eager to dig into our new record. This new stuff is really exciting."

The Alkaline Trio is already looking ahead to its next tour.

"We're heading down to Australia with Nine Inch Nails," Skiba said. "Then we're heading to Japan and the Philippines. We've never played the Philippines before."

Skiba was also psyched about his job as an "extra" in this summer's blockbuster "The Dark Knight."

"I got to be part of an angry mob," Skiba said. "I'm visible on the screen for a millisecond, but it was a real treat. We're all huge movie buffs.

"I'd love to act in the future. You know what they say -- rockers always want to be musicians and musicians always want to be actors."
