Reality Bytes: Flavor Flav, 'American Idol' and 'Shear Genuius'

Wednesday, September 3, 2008

The Colorado reality show connection is still growing.

Last week's Public Enemy concert proved that Flavor Flav shouldn't give up his day job, as the performer showed that he has more talent as a rapper than as a reality show celeb.

Flavor Flav worked the Boulder Theater crowd into a frenzy -- only missing beats when his ridiculously large clock necklace wound around his neck. The rapper should definitely spend more time showing off his stage moves and less time looking for gonzo women on "Flavor of Love."

Local "American Idol" finalist Ace Young made news last week when he signed on to play the hubcap-stealing Kenickie in Broadway's "Grease." Why would someone want to put that on a resume? This is the same Broadway revival that used TV reality audiences to pick its original leads.

Need we say more?

Wise-ass salon owner Charlie Price from Denver came in second on Bravo's "Shear Genius" finale. The judges said his Gwen Stefani-style, "burrito-looking" beehive cost him the first place prize. Hair today -- gone tomorrow.

New 'AI' judge

What were they thinking at "American Idol?"

The show added a fourth judge to the reality program last week in the form of songwriter Kara DioGuardi. Great, the woman that cranks out mediocre songs for Hilary Duff, Miley Cyrus and Lindsay Lohan now gets to decide America's best singer.

Maybe she'll be gone by the time they get down to the final 12.

'Dancing with the Stars'

In a last ditch attempt to attract fans, "Dancing with the Stars" is going where no show has dared go before.

This season's lineup includes reality star Kim Kardashian (who now sports a broken toe), "Love Boat" and "Married...with Children" star Ted McGinley, reality chef Rocco DiSpirito, soap queen Susan Lucci and "Hannah Montana's" TV boyfriend Cody Linley.

Is this a reality show lineup or the cast of a really bad made-for-TV-movie?

Surviving 'Survivor'

Trust me, you're going to be hearing a lot about "Survivor" in Reality Bytes.

The new "Survivor" season debuts Sept. 25 and takes place in Gabon. For those of you who flunked geography, Gabon is located in Africa. This season is being dubbed "Earth's Last Eden," and apparently a good vs. evil theme will be running through the "Survivor" antics.

According to "Survivor" producers, a video game pro, music production assistant and Cartier jewelry salesman will be some of the wanna-be survivors.

Yeah, those are skills you want to bring with you to the wilds of Africa.
