It's going to be a Sound Tribe Sector 9 blowout weekend.

The first phase of Thursday night's party takes place at STS9's sold-out Boulder Theater show.

Phase two of the party starts at midnight.

That's when Pnuma Trio and friends hit the Fox Theatre for a special all-night, post-show bash. The late night concert will feature sets by the Pnuma Trio, Flying Lotus, Eliot Lipp Live (featuring members of Pnuma Trio) and DJ Rootz.

Pnuma Trio was the obvious choice to host the late-night Fox party, as the local band's now part of Sound Tribe's 1320 Records. The Boulder group's mix of electronic-based grooves lends itself very well to the label's roster.

"We've been doing Pnuma Trio for the past three years -- since we were all 19 and 20," bassist Alex Botwin said. "We started the band in Memphis, Tenn., but we're from all over the place. We moved to Colorado last year -- and we love every minute of it!

"There's a really good music scene here."

Pnuma Trio may call Boulder home, but the band plays more than 200 days a year on the road. The local group has shared concert stages with Buckethead, Michael Franti and the Disco Biscuits.

Fans really appreciate Pnuma Trio's ever-evolving sounds, and the local band is now ready to take its listeners on a new musical journey.

"We used to just play instruments and we were focused on instrument-driven compositions," Botwin said. "Now we've incorporated electronics and computers. That allows us to further the music with all the programs we have. There's so much material coming out of us that we're trying to figure out how to get it all out!"

The Pnuma Trio's new music pops up on the band's latest CD, Character. The album was first released via the Japanese division of Columbia Records in 2007, and now the U.S. version's out on Sound Tribe's label.

"The CD's doing well in Japan, but we're already light years beyond that record," Botwin said. "They even have cardboard cut-outs of the band in record stores there! We're proud of that CD -- it's a solid piece of music from beginning to end. We sent the CD to Sound Tribe because we needed a label in the U.S. that would be a good fit.

"We have a lot of respect for the band."

The respect has been paid back to Pnuma Trio, and now the band's looking forward to playing Thursday night's STS9 after-show party at the Fox. Botwin said locals should check out the sets by Flying Lotus and electronic artist Eliot Lipp.

"I'm really excited -- this is going to be a special show," Botwin said. "This party should go on until 4 a.m."
