Five hot spots to shoot some pool

Pretty soon, the only pool you'll be dipping into will be a green one.
No, not the lime Jell-O shots that fill the kiddie pool next to the keg -- the billiards kind.
If you suck, there are many places in town to practice for free or for cheap happy hour prices. And if you're a shark, then go show all those people who suck how it's done. You show off.
Here are five great places to pick those pockets, without emptying yours:
1.) The Foundry
1109 Walnut St., Boulder
The Foundry, known as one of Boulder’s hot singles joints, houses 10 pool tables under huge, warehouse-sized ceilings. All tables but one are regulation size. If you want to solely play pool, this is the place to be — they have more tables than anyone in town. Play for free on Sundays and Mondays with a $10 drink purchase, otherwise the game is $3.50 per hour, per person, until 7 p.m., and $5 per hour, per person, after 7 p.m.

2.) The Walrus
1911 11th St., Boulder
As Pearl Street’s true college bar, billiards may not be your main reason for frequenting the Walrus, but the three regulation tables are about to be refelted, and there is plenty of elbow room to play. Pool is free all day Sunday and every other day it’s $1 a game. While you’re waiting in line, waste some time at the two air hockey tables or the foosball table.

3.) Sundown Saloon
1136 Pearl St., Boulder
When it’s sundown, all the action happens around the pool tables. This seedy joint (in a good way) is a favorite of Boulder’s “dive” bars, and has five pool tables. The games are free from 3 to 10:30 p.m. After that, get out the laundry money — the tables are coin operated and take four quarters per game.

4.) The UMC Connection
University Memorial Center, Broadway and Euclid Avenue, Boulder
OK under-21ers, here’s one for you: The Connection is a posh game joint on campus with some sweet deals for students. Located on the first floor of the UMC, there are eight pool tables. For CU students, the cost is $2.50 per person, per hour. Wednesday nights, drop in and play in a pool tournament for $2 per person.

5.) Catacombs
2115 13th St., Boulder
The Catacombs, underneath the Hotel Boulderado, is where you’ll want to bring the date you’re hiding from your other date. Kidding. Well, sort of. This dark, underground bar has five pool tables, including Boulder’s only nine-ball table, in the maze of various side rooms. If that’s not enough, there are arcade games, foosball and air hockey.
