Reality Bytes: Margaret Cho, Tyra Banks get things going

Also, 'Top Chef' vet busted for DUI

The fall reality season is getting off to a wild start -- comedian Margaret Cho has her own show, the girls are already getting nasty on "America's Next Top Model" and the most conniving "Top Chef' star was arrested.

Let the fall games begin.

The Cho-sen one

Comic Margaret Cho is usually pretty edgy, but she shows a more vulnerable side on her new VH1 reality series.

The program is simply dubbed "The Cho Show," and the performer incorporates her straight-laced Korean parents and her wild assortment of friends into the program.

Last week, Cho decided it was time for her and her friends to "live off the grid" in some remote rural forest. The comedian made her staff dress like "Little House on the Prairie" rejects and forage for food in the woods -- and Dumpsters.

Unfortunately, the cast ran into gonzo actor Gary Busey, who was busy hitting trees with a homemade wooden staff.

Why are we not surprised?

If Cho can balance the comedy and dramedy, this could be an interesting reality ride.

America's next top diva

The "fierce" Tyra Banks launched "America's Next Top Model Season 11" last week. Last season was a bore, because the program missed all the key elements of a good reality or drama series.

Reality shows that grab your attention and keep you riveted always have certain key characters. The list includes: a devious player, someone who's a little bit nuts, the All-American straight-arrow that plays by the rules and the "innocent" that either wins or gets nailed royally in the end.

This fall's "America's Next Top Model" has all those ingredients, and the cat claws were out in the first half-hour.

Meow, this is going to be a good season for Banks.

'Top Chef' gets busted

It definitely helps to have one ruthless contestant on a reality TV show.

"Top Chef's" popular second season featured the very conniving Marcel Vigneron, who would stop at nothing to win the contest. He was so bad that his fellow castmates tried to beat him up and shave his head. The contestants stopped short of their mission, but it cost Vigneron the "Top Chef" prize.

It gets better: Last year, an unhappy fan bopped the nasty TV chef over the head with a bottle.

Karma is a funny thing. Last weekend the cocky chef was arrested on suspicion of DUI after giving a cooking demonstration in Laguna Beach.

If Vigneron hadn't earned himself the role as one of the most devious reality TV show players, you can bet this wouldn't have made the news. He cooked his own goose.
