Tyler Wilkinson, who was arrested last year in connection with the fatal drug overdose of a University of Colorado graduate, was sentenced Tuesday to 180 days in jail.
Wilkinson, 25, called 911 on July 7, 2011, when he found his high school friend Layne Weinberg unresponsive in his Arapahoe Avenue apartment.
When emergency crews arrived, Wilkinson said he and Weinberg had injected heroin mixed with cocaine the night before.
Weinberg died from what the Boulder County Coroner's Office determined to be an accidental drug overdose.Police determined Wilkinson had sold drugs to Weinberg.
Wilkinson pleaded guilty to one count of distribution and one count of unlawful use of a controlled substance in exchange for other charges being dropped.
On Tuesday, Wilkinson was sentenced to a four-year deferred sentence for the distribution and 180 days in jail for the unlawful use.
He will have to submit to monitoring and substance abuse treatment during his deferred sentence and must complete 100 hours of community service.
