Two different vehicles hit a man on Interstate 25 south of the Colfax exit early Sunday, and only one of them stopped, Denver Police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened at about 3:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes.

The first car to hit the victim left the scene. The second vehicle stopped.

"A vehicle pulled over and flagged police and said that they thought they hit someone on the highway," said police Det. Mary McIver.

Police determined that a different vehicle had hit the victim earlier, and hadn't stopped.
