GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — Greeley police are investigating who has the goat — the Grand Champion who vanished from the Weld County fair this week.
The Greeley Tribune (http://bit.ly/1m0UCoU) says that the red-colored Boer (BOHR') goat was reported missing Monday, hours before it was scheduled to appear at the Junior Livestock Auction. Two of its halters were also gone.
The goat is owned by 18-year-old David Smith of Niwot. His father says he doesn't want to insinuate that someone stole the goat. He says it's possible the goat escaped and is just out in a corn field somewhere.
Despite its absence, the auction went ahead and the prize-winning goat sold for $5,500 to MS Biotec.
Police say they don't have any leads.
