The petite girl in the Modesto Junior College music-appreciation class looks like everyone else in the auditorium--wearing blue jeans and sneakers, taking notes, exchanging grins with a friend. Then the dismissal bell rings and she pulls a nearby wheelchair up to her seat so it is facing her. She almost falls because it's tough trying to turn 180 degrees when your legs are paralyzed. But her determination and upper body strength save her at the last minute, and Michelle Dalrymple is rolling out the door, looking up to chat with a classmate. The 18-year-old does a lot of looking up these days, ever since the bizarre accident that left a bullet lodged in her spine. Full story »

CU grad pokes fun at jam bands in spoof "Electric Apricot"

Take one graduate filmmaker, one group of colorful jam band artists, and a quirky mission to appear at the fictional Festeroo music festival -- and you have the premise for the new National Lampoon movie "Electric Apricot: Quest For Festeroo." The film was produced by CU grad Jason McHugh and it will debut at the Boulder Theater Tuesday. "Electric Apricot" offers another perk, as musician Les Claypool directed the movie and stars as the jam band's drummer.

Britney Spears granted expanded child visitation rights

Local writer holds key to 'Grand Theft Auto's' Liberty City

From his privileged position inside the Rockstar studio in New York City, Louisville resident Rick Barba spent 16 hours a day for 35 days sleeping little, eating less and playing a whole lot of "Grand Theft Auto IV" in order to write a strategy guide of the game.

The irony? He says he doesn't really like video games. "If I didn't do this for a living, I would probably never touch a game," he said Thursday — a day after his "Grand Theft Auto IV Guide" hit No. 22 on Amazon's bestseller book list. Full story »
