Friday, June 27, 2008
In fairness, we'll use the caveats early in this editorial, which is only partially about the arrests of former CU football players Bernard Jackson and Lionel Harris. Full story »
RACE AND PLACE: The power of retirement funds
Thursday, June 26, 2008
One thing that you can pretty much be sure of when it comes to capitalists, their number one motivation is money. I think that one reason business people are so much better organized and effective than social justice or environmental activists in achieving their political objectives is that business people can always rally around the almighty dollar. Letters: 'I will not vote for you, Cindy'
Friday, June 13, 2008
I see Cindy Carlisle is proposing to give "undocumented students" taxpayer-subsidized tuition in college. This means that illegal aliens who snuck into this country will recieve a huge monetary benefit compliments of the already hurting middle-class taxpayers. Gee thanks, Cindy. Liberals like Cindy are always very generous -- with someone else's money, of course. It seems to me that policies like this can only worsen the already critical border-crossing problem by giving an extra incentive to anyone wanting to sneak in to USA. If 12 million illegals isn't enough, this will surely result in more flooding in. I would suggest that if Cindy and others like her want to help illegal aliens that she do so with her own money, and have some respect for the taxpayer for a change. I will not vote for you, Cindy. PEACE TRAIN Bleeding heart liberal? Think again.
Friday, June 6, 2008
"THE UNITED STATES SHOULD LEAD A GLOBAL EFFORT AT NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT?" No bleeding heart liberal here, it was Senator John McCain who said this on March 26, 2008, surprising many listeners. Full story »
PEACE TRAIN: Stop funding the Iraq occupation now!
Friday, May 30, 2008
During the first week of June, Congress will be voting on a funding bill for the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan through the middle of 2009. On May 15, the House of Representatives voted down a $162 billion funding bill (149-141), largely because 132 Republicans abstained from voting for tactical reasons (not because they are opposed to funding the occupation). On May 22, the Senate approved the funding for $165.4 billion (70-26). A House-Senate conference committee is now working on a compromise bill. Full story »

Protect Colorado's wilderness areas
Friday, May 16, 2008
As gas prices continue to rise, Colorado has seen a renewed effort to open our state's pristine wilderness to energy development from corporate interests. Increasing our oil and gas drilling in the state is merely a band-aid for the much graver, more long-term issue of our dependence on non-renewable energy resources. What is more, the wilderness, the defining characteristic of our great state, stands only to lose from increased development. Over the next 6 years, it's expected that our active oil and gas wells will double from 30,000 to 60,000, opening some of our most treasured places like the Roan Plateau, the Vermillion Basin, and Browns Canyon to the plunderings of corporate America. A cornucopia for rich farmers
Thursday, May 15, 2008
What can $100 million buy you in Congress? If you're agribusiness, such money spent this past year on lobbying and campaign donations will harvest billions in farm subsidies and keep you in clover for another five years. Full story »
1968: the year the dream died
Wednesday, May 14, 2008
History often provides an excuse for a party. In Europe and America, romantics are celebrating 1968. It seems that every hotel in Paris is booked for this month's festivities - even the Ritz. Anniversaries have a way of cleansing the past of unpleasantness. Full story »

Investing in your future
Wednesday, May 7, 2008
Our students have completed finals and 5,488 of them are preparing to graduate Friday at Folsom Field. It is a special time of year and this graduating class is a particularly special group. Members of the graduating class of 2008 enrolled at the University of Colorado at Boulder at a time when the university was under intense scrutiny and during their stay with us they have experienced some difficult times. By choosing CU these graduates demonstrated a confidence in us and we now have the pleasure of rewarding that confidence with degrees that have increased in value and that, we hope, will help to transform their careers and indeed, their lives.
