Every time I hear, "Hey, it's free!" I can't help but wonder: is it absolutely free?

Or is it a, "Yeah, sure, it's free if you 'donate' $45 and promise us your first born."

Because as a recent grad, I could barely cover my body if I got all my money converted into ones, let alone swim around in it or make it rain. Hence my finding it a bit rude when folks tease me into thinking free shit exists.

I've been blue-balled a lot with freebies and am now sore and developing trust issues.

But folks at the Bohemian Biergarten (2017 13th St.), they wouldn't do that to you.

Thursday, they're hosting a free show with Gangsterish at 10:30 p.m. That's ElectroSwing and GhettoFunk, for those of you not quite as gangster-ish. Warning: It is only 21 and up, so have the ID ready.

Jazzed about spring/summer finally making an appearance? Hey me too! 'Course, those with functioning corneas aren't thrilled about the unveiling of the white legs I'm sporting. But the rooftop at the Absinthe House (1109 Walnut St.) may be just what you need to enjoy the change. And every other Sunday, from 4 to 8 p.m., folks there host Sunday Sunsets, with electronic music sessions and international beats. Fiat Luxx will be there, ready to help you cap your weekend off right.

I'd say, though, the best way to bring in the start of this season is to relax. School's out, and it's time to just enjoy Boulder. So here's some live music from your local breweries.

Head over to Boulder Beer (2880 Wilderness Pl.), and you'll certainly get an earful. Like Thursday night, their house band, Riff Raff, will play from 5 to 9 p.m. Didn't get enough Mojo or Buffalo Gold that visit? Well Saturday, Dead On is on from 5 to 9 p.m. Basically, you've got options.

Folks at Twisted Pine Brewing (3201 Walnut St.) also have live music, with Benyaro heading over Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. A sweet acoustic sound, actually. Perfect to sip a pint to. And from their "Dogs" YouTube video, they have a sense of humor, which is always a plus.

If you head over to Upslope Brewing (1898 Flatiron Court) at 6 p.m. Thursday, you'll get your bluegrass fix for the week with The Railsplitters. Pair that with the Cheese Louise food truck that'll be parked nearby from 5 to 8 p.m., and you have dinner, a show and great beer.

And oddly enough, if you miss them at Upslope, head to Centro Latin Kitchen (950 Pearl St.) on Friday. The Railsplitters are on stage from 3 to 5 p.m.

As per usual, West Flanders Brewing (1125 Pearl St.) will also have some tunes, with Americana Highway on stage at 10 p.m. Friday. A perfect pit stop while you're wandering the mall with your significant other, or friend who just really likes to shop (and you'd rather be doing, well, anything else).

And hey, hear of any good events this summer, or helping out with one? You should tell me about it. Seriously. Write me.
