A 50-year-old construction worker was crushed to death Monday by a 32.5-ton earth mover in an accident at the Anthem Ranch development in northern Broomfield.

Roderick Seymour, of Fort Lupton, was operating the machine near the intersection of Anthem Ranch Road and Lowell Boulevard when the accident happened just after 2 p.m..

According to preliminary reports from the North Metro Fire Rescue District, Seymour exited the vehicle and was standing behind it when it rolled back over him. He was pronounced dead shortly after emergency crews arrived, North Metro spokeswoman Wendy Forbes said.

Investigators from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are meeting with witnesses to try to reconstruct what happened, spokesman Rich Kulczewski said.

Anthem Ranch is one of two subdivisions in north Broomfield being built by Pulte Homes, which could not be reached for comment.

A similar accident killed a construction worker at the Anthem development in March 2006. In that incident a 53-year-old worker was run over by a road grader.

On Aug. 28 a worker fell from a ladder and was taken by helicopter to St. Anthony's Central Hospital for treatment of multiple traumatic injuries. The injuries were not life-threatening.
