Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) topped a list of the 50 richest members of Congress compiled by Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call.
Every year since 1990, the newspaper has pored over financial disclosure reports filed in the House and the Senate to pull together its best estimates for the net worth of lawmakers.
McCaul, whose net worth is estimated to be $305.46 million, is married to the daughter of Clear Channel Communications CEO and founder Lowry Mays.
Also in the top five are Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), worth $198.65 million; Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), worth $140.55 million; Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), worth $85.81 million; and Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), worth $83.08 million.
The net worth is determined by subtracting the total minimum value of all liabilities listed on the forms from the total minimum value of all assets.
