adds Big 12 to rotation
The EagleBank Bowl has extended its contracts with the Atlantic Coast Conference, Conference USA, Navy and Army.
The bowl also has a new agreement with the Big 12.
Under the agreements announced Tuesday, the bowl will feature an ACC team each year from 2010-13. The opponent will be a Conference USA team in 2010, Navy in 2011, Army in 2012 and a Big 12 team in 2013.
Should Navy or Army not be bowl-eligible in their respective years, a team from the Big 12 will be chosen in 2011 and a Conference USA team in 2012.
This year`s EagleBank Bowl takes place Dec. 29 at RFK Stadium. It will feature Army -- if Army is bowl-eligible -- against an ACC team.
Ealey says Spikes
shouldn`t be suspended
A most unlikely person came to the defense of Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes, who was suspended for half a game for apparently trying to gouge the eyes of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey
Ealey said Tuesday he doesn`t believe Spikes should have been suspended.
In fact, Ealey seemed surprised the play from Saturday`s game drew so much attention.
Ealey said he had his eyes closed when Spikes stuck his hand in his helmet and he wasn`t hurt.
"He really didn`t gouge my eyes," Ealey said. "He really didn`t get a chance to get close to my eyes."
Suh faces discipline
for car crash
Nebraska defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh has been disciplined by the team after being ticketed for negligent driving for ramming three parked cars with his sport utility vehicle over the weekend.
Suh, a fifth-year senior and one of the team leaders, told police he swerved to avoid hitting a dog or cat crossing the street when his 2003 Land Rover hit the first of three cars on a Lincoln street. Police said Suh had alcohol in his system, but he tested well below the legal limit.
Coach Bo Pelini said Tuesday that he would not make public the nature of Suh`s punishment. Pelini, who has a zero-tolerance policy on alcohol-related offenses, said Suh was not drunk and that the crash was an accident.
