The 2013-14 Buffs have a math problem.

From a talent standpoint, it's a good one for the coaches to have to solve.

Even though Colorado only has one senior on this season's roster, head coach Tad Boyle and his staff plan to officially welcome three high school players to the family today, the first day of the early signing period, as part of the 2013 class.

Sabatino Chen will be out of eligibility at the end of the season. However, without any offseason attrition that could still leave 15 scholarship players in the program and only 13 scholarships available.

"There's a lot of different scenarios when you look at our team," Boyle said.

Andre Roberson, the Buffs' junior forward who should be a serious Pac-12 player of the year candidate this winter, could opt to leave a year early for the NBA Draft.

Two redshirt juniors, Jeremy Adams and Shane Harris-Tunks, are on schedule to graduate from CU this year.

Junior center Ben Mills is not currently in the regular rotation for the third consecutive season. This past offseason, Shannon Sharpe decided to transfer to a smaller school (Cal Poly Pomona) closer to his home where more minutes were available.

"Things have a way of working themselves out," Boyle added.

Things have been working out well on the recruiting trail since Boyle was hired.

Roberson was the first player to commit to this coaching staff. Askia Booker and Spencer Dinwiddie, two Los Angeles products, made their mark in the Pac-12 as true freshmen last season.

CU signed a six-man class in 2012 ranked among the nation's best.

True freshman Josh Scott led the team in scoring during his debut in last Friday's 74-59 win over Wofford. Classmates Xavier Johnson, Eli Stalzer and Xavier Talton also contributed in the opener.

Boyle announced that two freshmen, Wesley Gordon and Chris Jenkins, will redshirt this season.

Jaron Hopkins, Tre'shaun Fletcher and Dustin Thomas will officially announce themselves as Buffs today by signing national letters of intent.

Per NCAA rules, coaches are not allowed to comment on recruits until after they sign.

Hopkins is a 6-5 shooting guard from Mesa, Ariz., Fletcher is a 6-5 small forward from Tacoma, Wash., and Dustin Thomas is a 6-8 forward from Texarkana, Texas.
