The Colorado men's golf team struggled down the stretch again and had to settle for 10th place at the Pac-12 Championships in Los Angeles.

The Buffs began the day in seventh place, but turned in a 27-over par team score of 377 to finish at 1,487 over four rounds.

California, ranked No. 1, led from wire-to-wire and won by 12 strokes with a team score of 1,406. No. 3 UCLA was second at 1,418 and No. 4 Washington was third (1,432).

"Today was disappointing," Buffs coach Roy Edwards said. "We got off to a pretty good start but really made a lot of unforced errors on the back nine."

The Buffs' five scorers lost 10 strokes to par over the final three holes.

CU's Philip Juel-Berg became the eighth freshman in school history to post the best team score in a conference championship. He finished up with a 5-over 75 that gave him a 12-over 292 on the 7,236-yard, par-70 Los Angeles Country Club's North Course layout. He tied for 24th to pace the Buffs.

CU's No. 1 player and stroke average leader, senior Jason Burstyn, never got much going and struggled to his worst finish of the season. He closed things out with a second consecutive 9-over 79 for a 33-over 313 total. He tied for 66th.

Cal's Max Homa, who set the course record of 61 in the opening round, earned medalist honors with a 9-under 271.

Colorado now awaits its fate for a berth in the NCAA Championships. CU was left on the outside looking with a similar record against Division I competition last year. The selection committee will announce the field Monday."We had an opportunity to erase any doubt about making the NCAA championships this week but we didn't do that. I am confident we have done enough but now it is out of our control," Edwards said.
