Former Colorado quarterback Nick Hirschman is transferring to Akron, ESPN reported Thursday.

Hirschman announced his plans to transfer in April via Twitter.

Hirschman twice lost quarterback battles in August camp at CU. He was beaten out by Tyler Hansen in 2011 and Jordan Webb last year. However, with Webb tearing his anterior cruciate ligament this spring, Hirschman was listed at No. 1 on the depth chart with Connor Wood.

That wasn't enough for Hirschman.

"I felt at this time that it has been three years, a great three years, but with no decision made at the end of spring ball, it was a personal choice that it was time for me to move on," Hirschman said in April.

Hirschman, 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, completed 59.1 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and seven interceptions last season for the Buffs. He has two years of eligibility remaining. He will be eligible to start next season for Terry Bowden's Zips after earning his degree this spring.
