The University of Colorado regents approved contract extensions through April 2018 for both men's basketball coach Tad Boyle and women's basketball coach Linda Lappe on Thursday.

However, details of those contracts are limited as the documents are not yet public because they haven't been signed by the coaches, according to CU spokesman Bronson Hilliard. He said he expects the contracts to be released next week.

The new contracts run from July 1, 2013, to April 30, 2018, and supplant the extensions approved by the regents in February 2012 that were to have run through April 30, 2016.

"These contract extensions are vital investments in the future of two very successful programs and the two great coaches who have led them," Hilliard said after the regents' vote.

Boyle's Buffs finished 21-12 overall last season. His team lost its opening game in the NCAA Tournament to Illinois, 57-49. The CU men won a NCAA Tournament game the previous season and reached the NIT semifinals in Boyle's first season at the helm.

Lappe's Buffs were 25-7 overall last season, but also lost their first game in the NCAA Tournament, 67-52 to Kansas. Despite the season-ending loss at the Coors Events Center, CU was No. 19 in the final Associated Press poll of the season.

Leading up to the regents vote, Jim Geddes, R-Sedalia, praised the character of both of the coaches.

Basketball ticket sales revenue last season reached $1.4 million, a $400,000 increase from the previous year, Kelly Fox, chief financial officer, told the board.

State law limits each university to six multi-year contracts at one time, and all of those jobs are now designated to CU's athletic department. Boyle and Lappe have two of those multi-year contracts.

Boyle and Lappe both were hired in April 2010 and helped transition their teams from the Big 12 to the Pac-12.
