Boulder County rescue crews rescued two climbers from the First Flatiron Tuesday night after the two became stranded after dark.

Kurtis Anders, 24, of Castle Rock, and Konstyantyn Halonkin, 25, of Aurora called dispatchers at 8:06 p.m. Tuesday near the summit of the First Flatiron. The two had changed course on their ascent and could not find a rappelling anchor for their descent after nightfall.

Rescuers were able to reach the two at 10:22 p.m. and were able to help them rappel down on their own.

Officials said the climbers were experienced and properly equipped but did not have a proper route map for the area.

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office, A Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks ranger and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group assisted with the rescue.
