Though three University of Colorado track athletes competed on the second day of competition at the 2014 NCAA Track and Field Championships, none where able to advance any further, as all three failed to qualify for the finals in their respective fields on Thursday at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.

Junior Blake Theroux crossed the line in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:54.70, good for eighth place in his heat and 17th overall. UTEP's Anthony Rotich took the top spot with a time of 8:39.76, while Tanguy Pepiot of the host Ducks earned the 12th and final spot with a time of 8:50.03.

The other two Buffs competing, freshman Ben Saarel and junior Jake Hursyz, were both unable to capture one of the 12 spots in Saturday's 1,500-meter finals. Saarel ran the event in 3:47.19, while Hursyz crossed in 3:48.16, good for 16th and 20th overall, respectively.

Arizona's Lawi Lalang earned top billing in the event, clocking in at 3:41.03.

The NCAA Track and Field Championships continue Friday with just one CU athlete competing, as senior Shalaya Kipp will represent the Buffs in the 3,000-meter steeplechase women's final. Sophomore Carrie Verdon will compete on Saturday in the 5,000-meter final.
