Sometimes winter can cause us to fall into the sweatsuit slump.

Which is just fine -- sometimes.

But wearing sweats five days a week is too comfortable. Plus, there are some hot trends this winter that shouldn't be passed up.

Here are five must-haves for the chilly temperatures.

1 Biker boots

Anything biker this season is chic. The black boots that are buckled, strapped and wrapped are way too cute to pass up. This boot can be paired with anything -- from a skirt with tights or worn as an accessory for those black skinny jeans. Plus, since the boot is flat, it's ever so practical for not falling on your face in the snow.

2 Long scarves

Scarves as accessories have been a popular trend for while now. However, wearing scarves for a purpose really will make a world of a difference in keeping warm. Lucky for our napes, this season's fad preaches the longer the scarf, the better. Buy a 4-foot-long scarf, wrap it around a few times and let the rest hang.

3 Long and slim sweaters

Last year's long and slim trend has carried over to this season. Update the look with a cardigan on top (also oh-so-mod this year), add a waist belt and consider yourself updated. That walk to class in layered warmth just got so much better.

4 Legwarmers

Keeping those gams warm in the winter can be tough when there's calf-deep snow. Enter legwarmers. Throw on a pair of the popular '80s flashback over a pair of leggings. Wear them up over the knee or slouch them.

5 Beret

The top hat trend of this season is the beret. Fergie, Ashley Simpson, Nicole Richie and Rihanna all agree. Just make sure you learn to wear it correctly to avoid looking like a soldier. Not that there's anything wrong with that...
