A Boulder private music teacher was sentenced today to 10 years of sex offender intensive probation for inappropriate contact with a student in 2011.
Brian Trumble, 52, also was sentenced to 120 days of electronic surveillance by Boulder District Judge Roxanne Bailin at his hearing this morning and will have to register as sex offender.
Trumble pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a child shortly before he was scheduled to go to trial in October.
One charge of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust with a pattern of abuse and one charge of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust were dropped as part of the plea deal.
Trumble turned himself in to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office in February after the parents of a 15-year-old taking lessons from him reported Trumble for inappropriate contact, according to officials.
The parents believed the inappropriate contact started in January 2011. The student had been taking lessons with Trumble for six years.
Officials say Trumble also was employed by the Boulder Valley School District as a substitute teacher from August 2009 to October 2010. BVSD officials said Trumble never registered to be a substitute teacher after that point.
