Boulder's biggest snowfall since Christmas -- the 4.5 inches that fell Wednesday and Thursday -- could be followed by scattered flurries Friday as well as more snow this weekend, forecasters say.

Boulder meteorologist Matt Kelsch said the city received 4.5 inches of snow by 5 p.m. Thursday. The storm blew in Wednesday afternoon and dropped most of the snow by Thursday morning, with light flurries continuing throughout the day.

Kelsch said he expects Friday morning's commute to be far smoother than Thursday's.

"I don't think the main roads will be that bad," he said. "They'll be in much better shape than they were."

The National Weather Service is calling for highs in the mid-30s Friday and a 10 percent chance

"I think the sun will come out (Friday), but it might cloud up again and there may be a little bit of snow flurries," Kelsch said. "But it shouldn't be anything of significance."

Kelsch noted this week's storm marks the largest snowfall in Boulder since the city received 6.7 inches on Christmas Day.

And more snow could be just around the corner, according to the weather service, which is forecasting a 40 percent chance of snow Saturday night and during the day Sunday.

Kelsch said he expects the weekend storm to be relatively minor in Boulder.

"The one this weekend will have a bigger impact west of the Continental Divide," he said, adding that some mountain areas could see 6 inches. "But we might get a taste of the wind that we haven't experienced much this winter. I think we'll have more wind than snow."

The National Weather Service forecasts winds between 20 and 25 mph Saturday afternoon, with gusts near 40 mph possible.
