A 52-year-old cyclist was seriously injured this morning after she was hit by a vehicle while riding on Arapahoe Avenue, according to Boulder police.

The collision occurred around 10:44 a.m. today at the intersection of Arapahoe and 48th Street, Boulder police spokeswoman Kim Kobel said.

Kobel said the cyclist reportedly was headed west on Arapahoe when she tried to cross 48th and was hit by a car also heading west on Arapahoe trying to turn right onto northbound 48th.

The driver, identified as 71-year-old Mary Maddux, had a solid green light, but the cyclist was in the crosswalk and had a crossing signal, according to Kobel.

The cyclist -- whose name was not released -- was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries to her shoulder.

Maddux was cited with careless driving resulting in injury, according to Kobel.
