The Boulder County Coroner's Office has identified the man killed in a three-car accident on U.S. 36 on Jan. 22 near Davidson Mesa as Kenneth Oswandel, 44, of Boulder.

At around 8 a.m. Jan. 22, a Jeep driven by Oswandel hit the back of a Subaru station wagon while both were headed east on U.S. 36 in the right lane, according to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Nate Reid.

Oswandel lost control of the Jeep and began to flip and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Subaru slammed into the median and was then hit by a second Jeep. The drivers of the Subaru and the second Jeep -- both males -- were uninjured. There were no passengers in any of the three cars.

The accident initially shut down all lanes of U.S. 36.

Boulder County Coroner Emma Hall will conduct an investigation to determine the official cause and manner of death.
