The two meatballs found today don't appear to have been placed there recently, according to Boulder County Sheriff's Office officials, but instead likely were left at the neighborhood park at 5150 Buckingham Road in Gunbarrel at the same time as the others.
In a 24-hour span starting Monday evening, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office recovered six of the meatballs, which a spokeswoman said looked like hamburger or turkey meat mashed with rat poison.
Around noon Wednesday, animal control officers responded to a report of one more meatball, found by a woman walking her dog near a set of small ponds adjacent to the unnamed neighborhood park.
The eighth meatball was discovered and reported by the owner of one of the possibly infected dogs. Then someone called police today after finding meatballs nine and 10.There are no suspects in the case, but several of the recovered meatballs are being tested for DNA.
The reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person suspected of leaving the poisoned meatball also is now up to $4,500, according to sheriff's officials.
On Thursday, TV host and Boulder County resident Aaron Harber offered a $1,000 reward for information in the case. Since then, more donations have come in.
Meanwhile, all three dogs thought to have ingested the meatballs have been treated by veterinarians and are reportedly now in recovery, Sara Spensieri, an animal control specialist with the Sheriff's Office, said last week.
Anyone with information on the poisoned meatball case is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 303-441-4444.
