Let's talk starving student's dream here: lunch for less than $10 with enough leftovers to fill the belly for dinner.
The oversized burrito-on-the-go concept has been glorious to Boulder. Especially for hungry University of Colorado students.
With the assembly line stuffing that tortilla full of a variety of interesting combinations, those super massive burritos will stuff you so full you won't be able to walk back to class.
Sure, the typical Qdoba and Chipotle burritos are delish, but here are five burritos to try in Boulder that take a turn from the norm.
1 Illegal Pete's
Where: 1320 College Ave., Boulder, 303-443-0942; 1447 Pearl St., Boulder, 303-440-3955
Hours: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday-Wednesday; 11 a.m.-2:30 a.m. Thursday-Saturday
Illegal Pete's is the punk rock of burritos.
Not sure what that really means, but it's awesome because instead of an assembly line of ingredients, the workers mix the guts together before wrapping it all up. This means no sole bite of rice or sour cream.
The hip eatery is also a fun place to grab a beer. Try the Green Chile Burrito with shredded beef.
And grab a late bite: Thursday through Saturday, Pete's is open until 2:30 a.m.
2 Big City Burrito
Where: 2426 Arapahoe Ave., Boulder, 720-565-2489
Hours: 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 8 a.m.--8 p.m. Friday-Sunday
Big City Burrito is rad because they have potatoes! Such delicious country fried and seasoned potatoes! In a burrito!
Whoa. Calm down. Potatoes in burritos will make your stomach smile. And will stuff you for days.
Try the Super Burrito -- this beast is a large tortilla stuffed with cheese, rice, beans, salsa and your choice of filling (check out the chicken bay leaf).
3 Wahoo's Fish Taco
Where: 2790 Pearl St., Boulder, 303-473-9072
Hours: 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Saturday; 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday
Fish in a taco you ask? Why, yes. It's delicious.
Wahoo's took the interesting combination of Mexican, Brazilian and Asian fare and mixed it all together in a big fat burrito. Weird. But so tasty.
The menu offers an eclectic mix of surf food like the Banzai Burrito -- blackened fish, peppers, onions, zucchini, broccoli, mushrooms and cabbage.
4 Dot's Diner
Where: 2716 28th St., Boulder, 303-449-1323
Hours: 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday; 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday-Sunday
The breakfast burrito cures everything. Seriously. Everything.
From a hangover to world peace, the deliciousness of a tortilla stuffed with eggs, potatoes, meat, veggies, sausage, bacon and smothered in green chili is a superhero.
Fine, maybe not for everything, but the belly for sure.
Try a bubbling hot cheesy one at Dot's Diner on the Hill. You can even get it with tofu or veggie sausage.
5 Casa Alvarez
Where: 3161 Walnut St., Boulder; 303-546-0630
Hours: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Saturday; 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday
Olé, olé, olé!
Granted, you don't have time to hop down to Tijuana for a day trip. Focus on school, people. School!
The festive atmosphere of Casa Alvarez and south-of-the-border grub will satiate any yearning. While you're waiting at the sit-down restaurant for a delicious and affordable burrito, munch on some chips and salsa.
Give the Inferno Burrito a try -- a large tortilla stuffed with some serious spice.
