LYONS — The Larimer Humane Society seized 111 rabbits last month from a Lyons home in the flood zone and transported them to the shelter for health evaluations.

On Sept. 20, the National Guard Search & Rescue found the rabbits inside the home when they were evacuating Katherine Von Meister, 51, the owner of the rabbits, after the Front Range flood. The rabbits were found to be in varying degrees of health and living in conditions inadequate for humans or animals, officials said.

The rabbits were immediately placed in protective care at the shelter, where they have received food, shelter and veterinary assistance since then.
