Purchase prices were not disclosed.
Washington's K2 Sports, the behemoth with 14 brands, acquired 18-year-old Backcountry Access, a leading maker of avalanche-safety equipment.
Co-founders Bruce Edgerly and Bruce McGowan are pioneers in avalanche safety and backcountry education, innovating new gear and avalanche-education strategies.
Neptune, founded in 1973 by Gary Neptune, was acquired by Backwoods, an Austin-based outdoor-gear and -apparel retailer with stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska. The name will remain Neptune Mountaineering.
