LONGMONT -- Police are investigating the Thursday evening discovery of a body in the creek at Lanyon Park.

The body was reported just after 7 p.m. on Thursday and firefighters and police responded to the park to investigate, according to Longmont Police Cmdr. Jeff Satur.

Satur said the body is of an adult male and was found floating face up in the water.

According to Longmont Police Sgt. Paul Campbell, a family from the 1900 block of Meadow Drive who was walking in the park found the body shortly before 7 p.m. At this point, foul play is not suspected. There are no apparent signs of a struggle.

"We just don't know," Campbell said. "We always look for that."

Detectives remain on the scene, as well as investigators from the Boulder County District Attorney's and county coroner's offices. A police dog was being brought in to search the area. An autopsy has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday.

A couple of dozen neighbors were standing along a nearby fence on the 1900 block of Meadow Drive watching the investigation.

One neighbor who asked not to be named said he was skeptical that the victim could have drowned in the ditch because the current flow of water is quite low.
