Boulder police arrested two people Wednesday in connection with a string of burglaries in the neighborhood southwest of Broadway and Baseline Road, officials say.

Lindsey Elizabeth Rast, 19, and John Brayant Bowden, 31, were arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary and trespassing after police say they stole items from four homes in the area, all of which had been left unlocked.

The four homes are in the 700 and 800 blocks of 17th Street and the 1700 and 1800 blocks of Columbine Avenue, according to police.

Residents of the home in the 800 block of 17th called in a burglary report at 2:42 a.m. Wednesday after they went to investigate loud noises inside the home and happened upon the suspects, startling them, police say. The suspects fled, but Rast dropped her cell phone and a purse containing her ID on her way out, police said.

At 5:37 a.m., residents of a home in the 1700 block of Columbine called police to report a burglary. They told police that a male suspect, later identified as Bowden, had entered the home and told them he needed a place to hide from police.

Bowden and Rast were both apprehended in the area.

Police linked them to two additional burglaries after finding stolen items, including clothing and computer accessories, that they left behind at the homes.

Boulder police are continuing their investigation.
