Boulder plans to use about 300 goats over the next couple of months to control invasive weeds on city property.

The goats will graze in the areas of the Bobolink Trail and Old Tale Road, near 26th Street and Yarmouth Avenue, Boulder Reservoir dam faces, Boulder Reservoir Water Treatment Facility, and near the Big Bluestem Trail in southwest Boulder.

Goats have been used effectively by the city for more than a decade as a control for many different weed species, allowing the city to minimize using herbicides.

People using those areas are asked to leash dogs while the goats are present to protect both goats and dogs. The goats will be accompanied by a trained guard dog to protect them from predators.
