A man wanted in connection with a domestic violence case is now also facing assault charges after officials say two police officers were hurt trying to arrest him early Sunday morning.

Boulder police responded to the 800 block of Pearl Street at 3:07 a.m. Sunday after callers reported a prowler in the area, according to Boulder police spokeswoman Kim Kobel.

Police found a suspect -- identified as 39-year-old Steven Mihaylo -- near 10th and Pearl streets who matched the description of the prowler. While talking to Mihaylo, police learned he was wanted in relation to a domestic violence case involving his girlfriend from earlier in the week, and told Mihaylo he was being placed under arrest.

According to Kobel, Mihaylo was uncooperative and tried to pull away and kick at the two officers trying to arrest him. While trying to arrest him in the icy area, both officers fell and hit their knees, according to Kobel.

Mihaylo was arrested and transported to the Boulder County Jail on suspicion of two counts of second-degree assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and obstructing a police officer.

He also is facing charges of third-degree assault, criminal mischief, theft and obstruction of a telephone for the Jan. 1 domestic violence incident with his girlfriend.

Mihaylo remains in custody at the Boulder County Jail awaiting a setting of bond.
