City officials say the operations are called "severity patrols" and started Thursday.
The patrols will be conducted seven days a week from 8 a.m. till 8 p.m. They will consist of a three-person crew with a small fire truck.
City officials say a similar patrol last summer was able to respond quickly to the Flagstaff wildfire, which was held to 300 acres.
Boulder's western neighborhoods are considered part of the urban interface, where urban areas transition into more rural countryside.
