Cannabis comes in a variety of delightfully named strains, such as this Blue Dream. Sativa strains tend to pair well with physical activity, while indica is known for being more relaxing. A good way to remember the difference is that indica will put you in da couch. (Vince Chandler / The Denver Post)

Be informed

• It is illegal for anyone (regardless of age) to have or use marijuana on campus in any form, even with a prescription.

• Being under the influence of marijuana is a violation of the CU drug policy and may result in student conduct sanctions and processes.

• It's illegal to take marijuana products out of the state. Additionally, Denver International Airport has banned the possession of marijuana products on its property.

Welcome to Colorful Colorado. Now puff, puff, pass that giant blunt around and watch the state turn more colors, maaan. Womaaan. (Wo)man. Whoa, man.

Cannabis may be legal in your home state, but we don't care because Colorado started it. So in your face.

With the passing of Amendment 64 in 2012, Colorado residents 21 or older (with a government-issued ID) can legally possess 1 ounce of marijuana or THC. Out-of-state visitors and students 21 or older (with a government-issued ID) can purchase up to a quarter ounce. (Source: coloradopotguide.com)

Party.

Here's the problem, los duderinos and las duderinas: You have to find a place to smoke it. You can't just buy a fat sack and then torch it right outside the pearly gates of the dispensary. In Colorado, cannabis can't be consumed openly in public, and violators will be issued a ticket. The University of Colorado policy says it's illegal for anyone (regardless of age) to have or use marijuana on campus in any form, even with a prescription.

So that means not in your dorm, not on the quad — and it's also prohibited in most rentals around town.

But we have no doubt you'll find a way. When you do, don't drive high. If you get popped, you get a DUI. (I'm a poet.) Your parents won't bail you out of jail, and you'll wind up in a cell spooning a drunk transient who smells like Steel Reserve and lutefisk. (Don't ask.)

Most Boulder dispensaries close before 10 p.m., so plan ahead. Shoppers usually need to make the last purchase before 9:45 p.m.

Two more tips before I tell you where to go make your first legal pot purchase: Do not take it across state lines, and do not mail it to your friends back home. If you're into breaking those rules, I'll ask Lutefisk Steel Reserve to save you a spot at the cafeteria table. You're now a prison bitch.

Oh, and beware the edibles. If you've never ingested an edible, talk to the lovely budtenders at the dispensary. We don't want you soaring off the First Flatiron in a Wonder Woman outfit, because you can't fly.

(You're kind of a mess. You may need some therapy.)

Below are pot shops and where to get pipes, bongs and general hippie shit. If I missed any, apologies, I'm high as fuck. Cough. (Rough strain.)
