LONGMONT -- A 13-year-old girl whose ear was partly bitten off by an older girl was the aggressor in the fight and was ticketed with a municipal charge of assault in the case, police said.

In an incident report released Monday, Longmont police said a 15-year-old girl who was accused by the younger girl of biting her ear at Carr Park on Friday evening was acting in self-defense and had already sustained bite marks and other injuries in a "prolonged attack" by the younger girl.

"The 15-year-old girl was basically defending herself," said Longmont police Sgt. Jim Bundy.

The 15-year-old was not ticketed.

Neither girl's name is being released because of their age.

The younger girl, whose ear had to be sewn back on, will face a municipal charge of assault, and police said the case will be resolved in municipal court.

The 13-year-old's mother, who told media outlets over the weekend that she was upset that no arrests had been made in the case, couldn't be reached for comment.

Police are still investigating a claim that the younger girl made allegations that the older girl's father represented himself as a police officer after the assault.
