A cow died late Monday night after a motorist in a red Chevy truck plowed into the animal on South Boulder Road, the Colorado State Patrol said today.

The cow was one of 20 that had gotten loose from a nearby enclosure and wandered into the four lane thoroughfare near 68th Street around 11:30 p.m., Trooper David Hall said.

The driver, an adult male, was not hurt but his truck had to be towed from the scene, Hall said.

Authorities contacted the owner of the herd and he coaxed his animals back on to his property.
