H omecoming is a time of the year when every single entity of the University of Colorado and the Boulder community can come together and celebrate our wonderful alumni, students, campus, city, and community. I have been so honored to plan such a significant event on this campus and try and make it the best it can possible be.
Buff pride is a very unique thing and we are very lucky to have such great school spirit and zest. This year, the committee and myself have worked hard to make Homecoming as big as it possibly could be. We wanted to get every single student group, residence hall, sorority, and fraternity involved in this traditional event. This year's theme is "Going for Gold" in light of the Olympics that took place this year. The Grand Marshalls of the parade are Emma Coburn and Shalaya Kipp, who both participated in the Olympics in London.
We did decide bring the parade back to the Hill this year because this route was the only one that has room for us to grow and make the parade as large and traditional as it possibly can be. On Pearl Street, motorized floats were not allowed, and this put us at a standstill for planning a large event. Having large, motorized, traditional floats creates a spirit of tradition and history that takes place at every major university in the nation. The parade will also be on Saturday morning before the football game in order to create a more unique Homecoming atmosphere on campus on game day this coming Saturday. It will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, on 13th and Pennsylvania. There will also be a breakfast following the parade, free for anyone who participated in or just watched the parade! This will take place on the UMC terrace.
The concert is also very big this year. I have been working with Program Council to get an artist that the students would want to go see and actually get excited for. This year's concert theme is "Hip Hop Homecoming" and the acts, Schoolboy Q, Danny Brown and Be Good, are definitely worth getting excited over! The concert is on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom.
I would like to give a special thank you to my Homecoming committee, Program Council, CUSG, and all of our sponsors for making my job enjoyable and much easier!
Brianna Majewski is the director of Homecoming.
