BOULDER, Colo. –

Boulder’s intimate b.side lounge is starting to hit its stride.

The downtown club is beginning to attract a diverse selection of local and national acts — and that’s drawing attention to the Boulder nightspot.

Head down to the b.side on Thursday to check out Roots of Creation and the band’s amazing psychedelic, techno-beam light show.

Roots of Creation

The reggae-rocking Roots of Creation is quickly becoming known for its unique musical mix, techno-beam light shows and its music-fest campground concerts.

“We started out playing college parties and then we got a following,” vocalist/guitarist Brett Wilson said. “As soon as we graduated, we started playing clubs.

“Our music has evolved. It started out a little bit reggae, rock and funk. Now, it’s more reggae and we’ve incorporated all this electronic and dub.”

The band’s unique blend of sounds has earned Roots of Creation late-night slots at national music festivals.

“The electronic dub hybrid added to the reggae and rock has pushed us. It’s given us an edge,” Wilson said. “We don’t make set lists — we just the set flow like a DJ.”

Living on the musical edge, the band decided to come up with an interesting guerilla-marketing tool. Roots of Creation hooked up a generator at last year’s Rothbury music fest and played late-night shows in the campground.

“We might be doing some more of those shows this summer,” Wilson said. “It was cool to play at the Rothbury campsite. We played from 4:30 to 7 a.m. and it was one our favorite experiences.”

Gene Ween

The b.side lounge just added a second Gene Ween show on May 11.

The May 10 concert sold out in record time.

Tickets for the May 11 show will go on sale at 12 p.m. Friday at
