BOULDER, Colo. –

Phil DiStefano will remain provost of the University of Colorado’s Boulder campus while he serves as the interim chancellor.

CU President Bruce Benson announced last week that DiStefano will be the interim chancellor, while the school searches internally for candidates to lead the Boulder campus on a permanent appointment. Chancellor Bud Peterson is leaving the post for a job as president at Georgia Tech, which he will begin next month.

DiStefano, who served as interim chancellor for 17 months before Peterson took the job, has signaled he is interested in the post as a permanent position.

If DiStefano is named chancellor, then he will appoint a panel to find a provost, CU spokesman Bronson Hilliard said. The provost is the top academic post on the Boulder campus.
