A University of Colorado student who was tackled to the ground by an unknown assailant on the edge of campus early Sunday was able to fight off her attacker by biting one of his fingers, police said.

According to CU police, the woman was walking home at about 2 a.m. near Kittredge Field when a man “grabbed her from behind and tackled her.” While she was on the ground, the man covered the victim’s mouth with a hand, but she bit one of his fingers and he ran away, police said.

The woman got up and ran in the opposite direction, and two passersby escorted her across the street, where she called police. The victim sustained minor injuries.

The suspect is described as male, about 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 with a thin build, dark hair and no glasses.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call CU police at 303-492-8168. Those with information who wish to remain anonymous should contact the Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or 800-444-3776.
