Organizers of the University of Colorado’s Buffalo Bicycle Classic have canceled the event for this Sunday because of the Fourmile Fire.

Boulder County officials and ride organizers were concerned about the proximity of the charity ride’s route to the Boulder Reservoir, which is a staging ground for emergency crews battling the Fourmile Fire, according to a new release.

The release also stated that organizers were concerned about air quality for riders and overtaxing law-enforcement personnel who monitor traffic at intersections during the ride.

The ride’s organizing committee will meet this weekend to discuss what will happen next with the ride, which is the largest single source of scholarship funding for CU’s College of Arts and Sciences.
