There are lots of heroes and zeros in this week’s reality TV news, so let the games begin.
‘Survivors’ or thrivers?
“Survivor” host Jeff Probst is used to dumping contestants with the phrase, “The tribe has spoken.”
Now the tribe’s mouthing back at the reality host on “Survivor: Nicaragua.”
In a “Survivor” first, two contestants quit the contest last Thursday — and it was the reality buzz gone wild.
Smart-ass NaOnka Mixon and the youngest player, Kelly Shinn, said they were tired of the bad weather, and left the game. Duh, isn’t this what you signed up for? The duo had no remorse and jaunted out of tribal council straight to the plush “Ponderosa” digs saved for voted-out players.
Did these “Survivors” just outwit and outplay this game?
Mixon and Shinn had the entire episode dedicated to their decision, and earned lots of free publicity. Plus, the girls are still on the “Survivor” jury and living in luxury for the rest of the contest.
Looks like “Survivor” got played at its own game.
‘Top Chef All-Stars’: A+
“Top Chef All-Stars” is going to be the roller-coaster ride of reality shows, so hang on.
Last Wednesday, the Bravo show charged out of the gate and got everyone hooked for the season. The chefs brought all their culinary tricks and attitude to the table, and took some of the judges by surprise.
Some of the show’s top moments included Fabio Viviani telling off chef/judge Anthony Bourdain — and the players cooking the same dishes that got them voted off “Top Chef.”
Yeah, it was the ghost of dishes past. Ouch.
Chef Elia Aboumrad was the first chef to pack her knives, but this all-star battle is going to be one for the record books. It scored an A+.
Is the “Jersey Shore” cast going too mainstream?
Last week, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino appeared on VH1’s “Divas'” salute to U.S. troops.
Now the entire crew made Barbara Walters’ 2010 list of “Most Fascinating People.”
Thursday, the “Jersey Shore” gang will be featured on Walter’s annual ABC special. The reality cast shares the honors with Justin Bieber, Betty White, Sandra Bullock, LeBron James, Sarah Palin and Jennifer Lopez.
Apparently, the Jersey kids gave Walters lessons on Jersey lingo, tanning and the “Guido” lifestyle.
I’m sure these are skills we’ll all use in these crazy times.
