DENVER – Forecasters are urging backcountry sports enthusiasts to stay out of mountain areas in central Colorado because of dangerous avalanche conditions.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center said Tuesday conditions are very dangerous in the Steamboat-Flat Tops area and the southern and northern San Juan mountains.

Six people have died in avalanches in Colorado this winter.
