fun. is fun. This has probably been said too many times because it’s just too easy, but it’s also too true.
“Some Nights – Intro” is a stunning pop rock opera, with singer Nate Ruess giving Freddie Mercury and Bohemian Rhapsody a run for their money. The track also includes a great lyric for it’s time: “Tea parties and Twitter / I’ve never been so bitter.” His excellent vocals are front and center on the whole album, backed by an impressive showing from the rest of the band. “We Are Young” is destined to be an anthem, with the thumping bass, a cameo of Janelle Monae, and the belting chorus “Tonight we are young / So let’s set the world on fire / We can burn brighter than the sun” (which it’s worth noting is already being quoted on Facebook statuses everywhere).
All of Some Nights goes on in this vein – choruses begging to be sung along to and pop hooks, heavy on piano, that can’t be escaped. fun. is becoming the Queen of the millennials.
