I want to thank Senator Udall for showing his commitment to protecting the public lands in the Browns Canyon of the Arkansas River as a national monument. For years, countless numbers of local citizens, businesses and elected officials have supported preserving the wild character of Browns Canyon.
As a local Coloradan and avid enjoyer of the outdoors, I truly appreciate Browns Canyon as a national treasure. The spectacular landscape is one of the most popular whitewater rafting destinations in the country along with providing outstanding scenery, critical winter habitat for wildlife, and a wonderful place to hike and fish. My favorite hike is in the railroad gulch where the views are incredible- from the Collegiate Mountain Range, to the Arkansas River below, a favorite view of mine. Along with hiking opportunities, Browns Canyons’ low elevation provides critical habitat for big horn sheep, deer and elk- all deserving of protection for the future.
