DENVER — The owners of a leaking uranium mine west of Denver are rerouting a creek to avoid toxic waste.
According to the Denver Post, Cotter Corp. is building a 4,000-foot pipeline around the Schwartzwalder Mine, once the nation’s largest underground uranium mine.
The company has also been ordered to irrigate the Ralston Creek corridor to ensure that trees and wildlife survive.
State water quality officials said last year that uranium-laden water from the mine is still flowing into Ralston Creek despite ongoing cleanup efforts.
