ASPEN, Colo. — A district court judge has given a former Snowmass resident a break after the man told the judge he replaced his pot habit with yoga.

Vaughn Barnett said he once lived life in a marijuana haze until he discovered the benefits of yoga at the Pitkin County Jail.

Judge Gail Nichols says Barnett’s conversion influenced her decision to sentence him to another 30 days in jail after spending 130 days in custody. Prosecutors wanted more jail time.

Barnett also faces four years of probation for having 11 pounds of marijuana mailed to him.

According to the Aspen Times, public defender Tina Fang told the judge the Aspen jail has been the butt jokes about its yoga sessions for inmates, but they paid off for Barnett.
