The six-piece indie rock group from Bowling Green, Ky. has an ass-kicking sound it’s about time you heard. Celabrasion, their debut album, was released in September 2011 and it’s refreshingly hard rocking. With a lot of indie bands opting for a more mellow style these days, it’s great to see one fronted by a doe-eyed girl that’s not pulling any punches.
Alex Kandel was only 17 when the guys found her working as a barista, singing at the coffe shop’s open mic during her break. Sleeper Agent signed a record deal with MOM+POP while she was still a senior in high school, and as soon as she turned 18, she was out the door of her parents’ house and into the band life.
“I think we’ve just become such good friends over it,” Kandel said. “I think there was some weird transitioning periods, but I just jumped in on the first tour. It was do or die. Sink or swim.”
The band recently toured with their hometown friends, Cage the Elephant, and now they’re opening for fun.. In a few weeks, they’re off to play Coachella for the first time.
Kandel said they’re working on new songs in the meantime. They’ve got about 30 so far and they’re thinking of releasing an EP before the second full-length album.
Before you go to the show, check out the video for “Get Burned,” in which the band has a tea party that reaches Alice in Wonderland levels of weird.
