The West Magnolia recreation area, just south of Nederland, has officially closed for the summer.

Elsha Kirby, spokeswoman for the Boulder Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service, said crews will be removing trees to reduce fuel for fires and mitigate pine beetle infestation. Crews will also remove potential hazard trees — trees over trails and roads that were weakened or have already fallen after strong storms ripped through the northern Front Range in November.

Some trails in the area could open at the end of the summer. For forest service information on the closure,  including a map and projected re-opening, go to www.fs.usda.gov/goto/arp/westmagnolia.
